like no lie i actually still adore dw even after all the superwholock and tumblr shit that goesd own cause its been with me for so long of my life and even with dw at a problematic point in its run i still enjoy it a lot
regardless the criticism of the newer shit are still very valid and its not just the way moffat has treated the female companions; its in other shit too like plot consistencies and the doctor’s character (which is all on moffat, not matt smith, matt smith makes the doctor enjoyable even in his writing flaws) and how many canon rules moffat’s willing to break to make his episodes
Like i actually enjoyed day of the doctor a lot but there’s problems in it, no denying that, and when i watched it at a friend’s house two weeks ago a lot of people who came to watch it pointed out the weird shit that was being thrown in there (like when did the sonic screwdriver become capable of being a weapon. Ok)
nevertheless im still looking forward to peter capaldi as the 12th and a new producer!! hopefully they are more like davies and less like moffat
moffat’s companions’ lives are all so strangely ungrounded in reality and i think it’s a good example of his very weak writing. in day of the doctor we see clara teaching - no explanation, no mention of it in the episode, and no build up to it. although obviously this was a (really lovely actually) nod to canon, it’s not the first time this has happened; amy just “became” a model in one episode and was never shown like this again (after her first job was as a kissogram). it’s impossible to imagine this happening with any of russell t davies’ companions, who all had lives incredibly minutely planned out; rose and mickey found their path to success obstructed by class boundaries and working manually, donna worked a succesion of uninspiring office jobs and even well off martha was shown physically working very hard to achieve her medical degree.
this ability to skip through professions as well as change locations and dump family just grounds the idea that moffat’s companions are strange, non-human, undeveloped creatures. their lives, trials and tribulations don’t matter outside of the doctor, and it’s like they’re a succession of barbie dolls; “i can be a model! i can be a teacher! i can be an archaeologist!” with an awful lot of pluck, a cheeky grin, and no substance whatsoever
wow ok so i thought i was gonna really like brave new world but i guess not
all you ever do is hurt me
i tried to make a good post to ginger’s post about problematic people but nothing too great was achieved
like stuff like that and more has been on my mind for the past week and i’ve been so eager to make more posts about it but nah i cant really seem to get it out
gdi you can like whatever celebrity you want as long as you don’t leave yourself blissfully unaware of the bullshit they pull and don’t support said bullshit
stephen merchant? jontron? hella problematic people, but i dont excuse that shit. acknowledge all the bullshit.
and if you tell that problematic person why their behaviour is problematic and they call you “too sensitive” fuck them just fuck those people, they don’t need you and you don’t need them belittling your concern.
